The human body is made unbelievable and amazing. The whole structure of skeletal system of human being is consists of bones, cartilage, ligaments and tendons and accounts for about 20 percent of the body load. A cool reality about bones is that they are a lot stronger then you probably think, four times stronger than concrete. Made with inflexible and complicated framework bones are known as the skeleton that maintain and protect other soft organs of the body. There are a total of 206 bones in the body, most of which are located in the feet and hands, which leave a large part of the body for the remaining bones.

The bones which are longer than they are wide are known as long bones .The bones that make up the human skeleton are essential to support and protect the vital organs as well as providing anchor points for muscles. There are many different types of bones in the human skeleton, from the very small to the largest. Here we are now discussing about the longest bone in the human body.

Generally divided into five types of bones as long, short, flat, irregular and sesamoid, the longest bones named as the femur and tibia which are taking much load during daily activities and they are essential for skeletal mobility. The longest bones consist of the femora, tibiae, and fibulae of the legs; the humeri, radii, and ulnae of the arms; metacarpals and metatarsals of the hands and feet, the phalanges of the fingers and toes, and the clavicles or collar bones. The longest bone in the human body which is located in the upper leg known as femur bone is actually “thigh bone” and is so long that one end forms part of the hip and the other a part of the knee. On average the femur is about 48 cm long and makes up about a quarter of a person’s height. It is considered as to be the strongest bone in the human body and would be able to support about 30 times the weight of an average grown-up.

Femur: This is the only bone in the thigh and by far the longest bone in the human body almost by 3 inches; it measures in at 19.9 inches. The Femur also known as the thigh bone which is pretty impressive, you can watch this bone by looking at your thigh in comparison to the rest of your body and it’s not hard to notice that it would in reality be the longest bone in human body. The Femur in reality runs the distance from your hip down to around your knees.

Tibia: The Tibia is the second longest bone in your body measuring in at 16.9 inches, normally known as the shin bone. This is one of the bones that you can really feel with your hand, rub your fingers along your shine and you should be able to feel the whole thing.

Fibula: The Fibula is the third longest bone in our body, measuring in at 15.9 inches long. The Fibula also known as the lower leg bone that you can actually sense these bones with your hands because this bone goes from your knee down to your ankle area.

Humerus: The Humerus is the fourth largest bone in the body, measuring in at 14.4 inches long and also known as the upper arm bone, this bone goes from the shoulder to elbow.

Ulna: This is the fifth largest bone in your body known as the Ulna is measured at 11.1 inches long. Well known as lower arm bone this Ulna runs from your elbow.

Radius: The radius otherwise known as radial bone is one of the two large bones of the forearm, the other being the ulna. It extends from the side of the elbow to the thumb of the wrist and runs parallel to the ulna, which exceeds it in length and size.

7th rib: Well known for the long curved bones, these Ribs are which are surrounding the chest, allowing the lungs to expand and thus facilitate breathing by expanding the chest cavity. They provide to protect the lungs, heart, and other internal organs of the thorax. Humans have 24 ribs .The first seven sets of ribs, known as “factual ribs”. Usually, increase in length from 1 through 7 and decrease again through rib 12.

8th rib: These bones are also part of the long bones of human body. Its average length is 9.06 in / 23.00 cm

Innominate bone: This bone is a big flat as well as tightened in the center and enlarged above and below which forms the main correlation between the lower limb and the axial skeleton also known as hip bone or coxal bone. The hip bone is formed by three bones; ilium, ischium, and pubis.

Sternum: Shaped like a capital “T” the sternum or breastbone is a long flat bone located anteriorly to the heart in the center of the chest. It connects to the rib bones forming the anterior section of the rib cage with them, and as a result helps to protect the lungs, heart and major blood vessels from physical trauma.

Longest Bones are a very important role in our body functions; it takes long time to heal injuring any of these bones can be extremely painful .So every human being should take care of their bones. Human body muscles attached to these long bones giving much more strength to perform everyday work and other activities. It plays an important part in the overall function of our body. Without bones our body cannot move and function properly. By doing exercise and by consuming a lot of milk, we must keep them strong and healthy as it contains more calcium in comparison to any other organ of human body.
